About me

Exceeding Expectations One Patient at a Time

Elixabete Guruceaga O'Leary

Elixabete Guruceaga O'Leary, originally from San Sebastian in the Basque Country of Spain. In 2003, at the age of thirty-six, I moved to Ireland—a decision that has proven to be one of the best in my life. This move led to a new direction both personally and professionally, shaping my journey to where I am today.

Professional Background and Education

Before transitioning into therapy, I was deeply involved in customer care services. While I enjoyed engaging with people in various jobs, I always felt a calling to help others more personally and emotionally.

In 2013, I embarked on my journey into the field of therapy, enrolling at PCI College in Dublin. After five years of both challenging and rewarding experiences, I received my bachelor’s degree from PCI College in 2018.

During my studies, I completed a placement with St. John of God in Killarney, Co. Kerry. This unforgettable experience taught me that regardless of our cognitive and intellectual abilities or life experiences, everyone deserves access to therapy and emotional support.

Current Practice and Specializations

Since 2018, I have been offering therapy through my private practice, Kerry Psychotherapy, and with various agencies across Ireland, both in person and online. I currently reside in Killarney, Co. Kerry, with my husband and two children, where I continue to maintain my private practice. I work with adults (18+) and provide therapy in both English and Spanish.

My areas of specialization include women’s health, relationship issues, work-life balance, self-care, trauma and developmental trauma, intellectual disability, depression, and anxiety. Over the years, I’ve pursued various courses and workshops in fields such as self-care, mindfulness, addiction, body-oriented approaches, and neuroscience. My deep interest lies in understanding the causes of developmental trauma and its impact on our lives.

Therapeutic Approach

In my practice at Kerry Psychotherapy, I utilize several therapeutic modalities, including humanist, person-centered, psychodynamic, CBT, and body-oriented therapies. My approach is holistic and tailored to the unique needs of each client, fostering a collaborative relationship where the client leads the therapy.

It would be my pleasure to accompany you on your therapeutic journey—a healing process that, while challenging, can be incredibly rewarding. Together, we can work towards enabling you to live your life more fully and reach your personal and professional potential.
I look forward to meeting you, whether online or in person, at Kerry Psychotherapy.
